Thompson was the number 1 ranked NCAA singles player in the nation his senior year at UCLA. Thompson also won the CIF individual title his senior year representing Crossroads High School. Clay's playing style consists of big hitting and serve and volley. Thompson received a wildcard into the 2014 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, losing to Steve Johnson in the first round.
