His skills at the poker tables lead to him producing the "2000 World Series of Poker" for the Discovery Channel. This was widely recognized as being groundbreaking. He was the first to introduce running statistics to show who was in the lead and further present the game as a spectator sport. He subsequently produced "The World Poker Tour" in it's first season and wrote a strategy column for CardPlayer magazine. Dan wrote and directed a play entitled "Corpania" at the Stella Adler Theater. He also wrote and directed a pilot-presentation entitled "The R. A. s" at the HBO-Warner Bros. Television Workspace. Dan trained through level 3 at both "The Second City" and "The Groundlings". Dan used to perform stand-up comedy at "The Improv" in Hollywood, "The Ice House" in Pasadena as well as "Stand-up NY" and "The Comedy Celler" in NYC. Dan wrote, produced & directed the short film "The Knew-it-all" which played at three film festivals including The Big Apple Film Festival (held at Tribeca Cinemas in NYC). Dan is an active member of the Producers Guild of America. He has produced & moderated several industry panels for the PGA and written articles for its "Produced By" magazine.
In 1997, E! Entertainment Television hired Dan as an Associate Producer on a new biography series that would come to be known as E! Mysteries & Scandals (1998). He was soon after promoted to Writer-Producer and produced the highly rated Lenny Bruce & Orson Welles episodes. Dan went on to assorted producer positions on documentaries, reality shows, game shows and talk shows.
Dan Abrams grew up in New York City and attended Trinity School (1st through 8th grade). Subsequently, he attended and graduated from Stuyvesant High School. His first summer job was as the Assistant Drama Director at Cedar Lake sleep-away camp. He then went to the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and graduated from the honors program with a BA in Psychology. In 1995, Dan was accepted into the inaugural year of the T-2000 program at Turner Entertainment in Atlanta. He enjoyed unprecedented access to high-ranking executives and fantastic opportunities to explore different facets of the industry. At the same time, he joined "Whole World Theater" as a collaborator and Producer (assisting in the development of subsequent television projects).
