Dean got his start in live theater. He began his stage career as "Henry" in the musical "Finian's Rainbow," when he was in the 6th grade. He later appeared in the Omaha Playhouse production of "Oliver!" and then lost himself in other teen-aged pursuits. As an adult, and on a dare, he auditioned for a role in the Springfield (Mo. ) Little Theater production of "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" in 1990. Not only was he cast, he was hooked. He has since appeared onstage in Springfield, Missouri is dozens of live productions including having portrayed Nicely-Nicely Johnson in "Guys and Dolls," Alfie Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" and Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof.
