Campbell was born in Dublin, and studied at Sutton Park School, then the University of Ulster (BA, 1996) and the Glasgow School of Art (MFA, 1998). He was born to a wealthy family and is heir to a €60m fortune. His father, Paddy Campbell, a businessman turned sculptor, built a successful catering company that was eventually bought by Aramark for €64.5m. His parents have featured on the Sunday Independent rich list for several years.
