2008

In the summer and fall of 2008, Ryan hosted a radio show called Sex, Drugs and Silicone on KLSX Free 97. 1. The show featured Ryan along with co-host and former Penthouse Pet Sam Phillips. Guests included Kendra Wilkinson, actor Gary Busey, attorney Gloria Allred, UFC's Bruce Buffer, author Christopher Ciccone, former Laker Rick Fox, Gene Simmons, Janice Dickinson and others.

Ryan introduced The Bony Pony Ranch Clothing Line in 2008. The clothing is sold in boutiques and online and is seen MTV's The Hills to E!'s Girls Next Door. Proceeds support the Bony Pony Ranch Foundation.

2000

In 2000, Ryan purchased a ranch in Malibu and expanded the scope of his charity to include trips to the ranch for inner-city kids for horseback riding, hiking and other outdoor activities. The ranch soon grew to 26 acres and eventually included tee-pees, a western town, totem poles, a nature park, a petting zoo and a botanic garden. The animals ranged from horses to an ostrich to a buffalo. The charity was eventually renamed the Bony Pony Ranch Foundation, after the cartoon character Bony Pony that was drawn for Dr Ryan by Hanna-Barbera's Joe Barbera. Ryan has performed surgery on television on numerous celebrities. These include Motley Crue's Vince Neil and pop singer Taylor Dane for VH-1's Remaking. He performed surgery on KISS' Gene Simmons and Playmate Shannon Tweed for A & E's Gene Simmons Family Jewels. He performed breast reconstruction surgery on America's Next Top Model Adrianne Curry for VH-1's My Fair Brady. He performed surgery on Girls Next Door's Patty Wilkinson, the mother of star Kendra Wilkinson. He performed surgery on Janice Dickinson for Oxygen's Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. He performed surgery on Showtime's Family Business. He famously performed breast augmentation and rhinoplasty on The Hills' Heidi Montag. The Bony Pony Ranch Foundation grew to include excursions to Lakers games, concerts, movie premieres and other special events, as well as overnight camps at the ranch. Celebrity guest speakers have included Spice Girl Melanie Brown, rapper Eve and UFC star Tito Ortiz.

1999

In 1999, Ryan became the plastic surgeon for boxer Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions. Since that time, Ryan has been a fixture ringside and has repaired dozens of lacerations.

1993

After moving back to Los Angeles, Ryan was the UCLA Division of Plastic Surgery's Aesthetic Fellow for 1993-1994, one of three doctors ever to have completed this fellowship,In 1994, Ryan entered private practice in Beverly Hills. The following year, he performed one of the first plastic surgery "makeovers" on television, on TLC's The Operation.

In 1986, Ryan moved to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Ryan completed an internship in general surgery at Cedars-Sinai followed by a residency in general surgery at Harbor/UCLA. He then completed a pediatric burn fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and a research fellowship at UCLA.

1978

Ryan was born in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Mary Kate Ryan (nee Manion), a registered nurse, and Frank Harry Ryan, a bookkeeper, who died when Ryan was three. He was raised Catholic. He attended art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. Ryan graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1978, where he was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper the guitarist/bassist in the jazz band.

From 1978 to 1982, he attended The University of Michigan and from 1982 to 1986, he attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
