In 2020, Brumburgh wrote the book and lyrics for the daytime soap opera musical spoof "Tangled Webbs" in collaboration with composer Ron Creager. Fashionably set during the Camelot year of 1963, the musical has been honored as one of six selected to be showcased in concert form at the June 2021 Florida Festival of New Musicals at the Winter Park Playhouse in Winter Park, Florida.
Brumburgh's second jazz CD, Moonlight, produced by Barbara Brighton and featuring the rare father-and-son pianist team of Terry Trotter and Jamieson Trotter, was released June 1, 2018, and made the Jazz Week charts for 18 weeks. Terry Trotter played on three of his tracks: Wichita LIneman, What'll I Do and the title song Moonlight. Jamieson Trotter played on the other eight tracks and arranged all 11 songs.
Surviving two bouts of head and neck cancer, Gary decided to give back and produced two gala fundraisers to battle cancer that took place at the famed Los Angeles jazz club Catalina Bar & Grill. The first, JAZZ vs. Cancer (February 7, 2016)), served to benefit weSPARK, a Sherman Oaks (CA) cancer support organization with actress Nancy Allen its current executive director. Cheryl Bentyne of the Grammy-winning vocal group The Manhattan Transfer was among the special guest singers. The second, JAZZ vs. Cancer 2 (August 27, 2017), benefited/honored City of Hope and featured vocalist Tierney Sutton among other well-known Los Angeles jazz singers.
