As of 2019, James and his wife, April, are raising two daughters.
In November 2013, his wife posted an update on his Cinemassacre website that their daughter is continually seeking medical treatment due to unnamed complications. On April 13, 2016, Rolfe revealed what happened while announcing an auction of various Cinemassacre memorabilia to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. During birth, his daughter suffered nerve damage in one of her arms and required many months of physical therapy to recover full use of her arm. Rolfe expressed gratitude to Shriners for all they did for his family during that time.
He is also the co-creator of Cinemassacre, an online movie review site and a place he posted his videos to before youtube was even available (youtube was made in 2006) (His site (Cinemassacre.com) was made in 2004).
He is a writer and producer, known for The Angry Video Game Nerd (2004), Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie (2014) and You Know What's Bullshit (2007).
