Lisa Ruth grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana where she was involved in the local music scene. She co-founded bands such as Dewi & the Don'ts, Shamba Sanguine, CLEG, Milton Street, Grapefrute, Bubble, and Mire In The Murky Water. In 2004, Lisa and Grapefrute members Matt Sommers and Kathy Minnick teamed up to record once again and are continuing their musical pursuits as the band Notice. In the early 90s, Lisa moved to Chicago to pursue more musical avenues and entered college where she earned a BFA in Media Arts and Animation and graduated with honors from The Illinois Institute of Art. Her short films, Worn Out Doll and (E)Scapes, garnered the attention of Reeltime in Evanston, Illinois and opened the door to work with the Chicago-based film company, Dreaming Tree Films. With Dreaming Tree, she contributed cinematography, a/v editing, storyboards, directing, producing and motion graphics on a variety of commercial and independent videos including the award-winning education video, Find Your Future, which she co-created with cinematographer Jillian Pendell. While at Dreaming Tree, Lisa also contributed her skills to The Book of Stories film series and worked with high school students through The After School Matters program teaching digital filmmaking.
Since leaving Dreaming Tree, she has worked on community awareness videos such as 2004's 'Gang Awareness: Stories From the Inside', 'One Body' - an international release bringing awareness to religious persecution, and collaborated with other artists on their gallery exhibition videos.
In 2004, Lisa teamed up with DePaul University Visual Arts Education Director, James Duignan, to form Duignan/Ruth Independent Productions (DRiP).
She was also a film assistant on the Cartoon Network animation premier of 'Long Hair and Doubledome'(2000) and a part of the art direction team for the independent film, Jeff Farnsworth (2003)_ which has appeared on HBO. In addition, Lisa's video work has also been featured in prominent Chicago art galleries such as Flatfile Photography, The Apollo Theatre and Walsh Gallery, and she has collaborated with writer Sarah Keller on the independent film 'Nice Outfit'. Her independent and collaborative works have also been shown at several film festivals including The Chicago International Film Festival, FACETS, Reeltime, Mystic Dance Club, Moondance and The Way Out Film Festival. She has also contributed music for several gallery pieces and for various films.
