In 2009, Rimac founded the Rimac Automobili automobile manufacturing company in Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb. The Rimac Concept One electric car, the first one designed and manufactured by Rimac Automobili, was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. The car included company's 24 patented innovations. It was described as the world's first electric supercar.
In 2008, Rimac founded a new company, Greyp Bikes, a sister company of Rimac Automobili with the purpose of manufacturing high-performance electric bicycles with which he "intends to change the world".
At the age of 18 in 2006, Rimac bought a 1984 BMW E30 323i and raced it. After the gasoline engine exploded during one race, he decided to turn the car into an electric one. He worked on the car in his parents' garage in Samobor and bought pieces for it on the Internet. This was the groundwork for the car company he established in 2007.
Mate Rimac (Livno, 12 February 1988) is a Croatian innovator, entrepreneur, and founder of the Croatian car company Rimac Automobili in 2009. Rimac started modding an electric supercar at the age of 20. He started his car efforts in his garage, growing his company out, into a pair of companies. As a child, he dreamed of building the fastest car. He has stated that his goal is to bring automotive manufacturers to Croatia. Forbes Magazine named Rimac one of the Top 30 Under 30, the 30 best entrepreneurs under the age of 30 of the world, in 2017. Rimac was named the Croatian Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 by EY Hrvatska (Ernst&Young Croatia).
Rimac was born in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1988 to Zdenka and Ivan Rimac. His family moved to Frankfurt, Germany when he was three years old and lived there until 2000 when they moved to Samobor, Croatia and founded a construction company. First innovation of Mate Rimac and Luka Bošnjaković was the "iGlove", an electronic glove that replaces the keyboard and the mouse on computers, and second innovation of Mate Rimac and Marko Milečki, innovation for rear-view mirror system for avoiding blind spot which were awarded on IENA 2006. Rimac attended the VERN University of Applied Science from 2007. He obtained a Bachelor degree in Entrepreneurial Management in 2010.
