Jones went on to feature in 22 games the following season as North Queensland finished second last on the table and in 2000 the club claimed its 3rd wooden spoon with Jones playing in 20 games. In 2001, Jones was one of three players who testified against Wests Tigers player John Hopoate, who was found guilty of unsportsmanlike interference, in that Hopoate had inserted his finger into their anuses during the match. At the end of 2002, Jones announced his retirement and at the time was the club's longest serving player.

1995

Jones made his first grade debut for North Queensland in Round 5 of the 1995 season against rivals Brisbane. North Queensland went on to claim the wooden spoon in their first season as a club managing only 2 wins all year. In 1997, North Queensland joined the rival super league competition at the height of the super league war with Jones making 16 appearance for the side. North Queensland claimed their second wooden spoon after finishing last on the table. In 1998, North Queensland joined the reunified National Rugby League competition but Jones missed the entire season with injury.
