Timeline

1995

Howard's career was re-established with the 1995 release of "It's Time. " This album went into Billboard's Top 20 R&B chart and had a Top 10 single. Howard Hewett toured with R&B legends George Duke, Jeffrey Osborne, CeCe Winans, and Luther Vandross. As the major distributors moved toward securing a stranglehold on retail, the chance of success through independent distribution became more and more bleak. Caliber Records was one of INDI's most successful labels.

In 1993, Caliber left the BMG label in order to secure their own distribution through INDI (Independent National Distributors, Inc. ), an independent distribution company formed by four distributors around the country. Through INDI, Caliber released records by Canadian stars Crusoe and Juno Award winners John James and Haywire. Established hard rock band Love/Hate was Caliber's first real break, selling more albums than Caliber's previous releases. However, INDI tended to focus more on R&B and Rap, and despite a huge promotional campaign that pushed the first single, "Spinning Wheel," to number one at many radio stations around the country. One of Caliber's biggest successes was with R&B superstar Howard Hewett.
