2020

In April 2019, Kim was booked as one of the suspects in the Jung Joon-young KakaoTalk chatrooms portion of the Burning Sun scandal by the SMPA (Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency) and currently is under investigation. He admitted to spreading one hidden camera photo taken without consent which he had downloaded from the internet. Recently, an entertainment reporter said in the show "Rumour Has It" that Kim was actually in a groupchat with Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon that was about fishing. Both Stone Music Entertainment and Roy Kim has confirmed the news and stated that there was an incident of a pornographic picture of a celebrity that was being shared in the chatroom. Kim took a screenshot of the photoshopped image and posted it saying, "This is not actually that person," and that was what he was questioned for. The February 24th 2020, broadcast of Channel A's 'Rumour Has It' addressed Roy Kim's situation. Celebrity journalist Kim Ji Hyun stated: "Many people don't know that Roy Kim, Jung Joon Young, and Choi Jong Hoon were part of a fishing group chat. Fishing as in catching actual fish. In that room, there was a dissemination of pornographic images of an entertainer at the time. That's why Roy Kim captured a picture from a blog to clarify and say 'that's not that person in the picture' and this fact became twisted to him saying that he was releasing pornographic images. He didn't upload the image to release pornographic images but to say that the picture was edited." The reporter continued stating: "He didn't receive any sentence but just the fact that he was investigated is continually degrading his image. So he can't promote as of now and I wanted people to know this unknown story."

On May 27, 2020, Kim released his self-produced single "Linger On", which is his first single in 1 year and 8 months, and will be his last single before enlisting into the Republic of Korea Marine Corps for his mandatory military enlistment on June 15.
